Behind screen speaker systems are a type of speaker setup commonly used in larger home theatres, commercial cinemas, and professional audio settings. As the name suggests, these systems involve placing speakers behind a perforated screen, which allows sound to pass through while maintaining a seamless and unobtrusive appearance.
Behind screen speaker systems are often used in larger venues where traditional speakers may not provide adequate coverage or where a more immersive audio experience is desired. These systems typically consist of several components:
Screen: The screen in a behind screen speaker system is acoustically transparent, allowing sound to pass through without compromising the image quality. The screen is usually perforated with tiny holes that are virtually invisible from a distance.
Speaker Enclosures: Behind the screen, large speaker enclosures house the individual speaker drivers. These enclosures are designed to fit behind the screen and can vary in size and shape depending on the specific system.
Speaker Drivers: The speaker drivers used in behind screen systems are typically large and powerful, capable of producing high volumes and low frequencies. These drivers are responsible for creating a dynamic and immersive audio experience.
Amplification and Processing: Behind screen speaker systems often require dedicated amplification and processing equipment to ensure optimal performance. This equipment is used to power the speakers and to adjust the audio output for the best possible sound quality.
Behind screen speaker systems offer several advantages, including a more seamless and immersive audio experience, improved coverage and dispersion of sound, and a cleaner and more professional-looking setup. However, they can be more complex and expensive to install compared to traditional speaker setups, requiring careful planning and installation to achieve the desired results.
Dedicated Cinema Speakers
Dedicated cinema speakers, also known as home theatre speakers, are specifically designed to deliver high-quality audio performance for home theatre systems. These speakers are engineered to reproduce movie soundtracks with clarity, detail, and immersive surround sound.
There are several types of dedicated cinema speakers commonly used in home theatre setups:
Front Speakers: Front speakers, also known as main or tower speakers, are positioned on either side of the screen. They are responsible for delivering the majority of the audio, including dialogue, music, and sound effects. Front speakers are typically large and powerful, capable of producing a wide frequency range.
Center Channel Speaker: The centre channel speaker is placed above or below the screen, directly facing the listener. It is crucial for reproducing dialogue and on-screen sound effects, ensuring clear and intelligible vocals.
Surround Speakers: Surround speakers are placed to the side or behind the listener to create a sense of immersion and spaciousness. They reproduce ambient sounds and effects, enhancing the overall audio experience.
Subwoofer: The subwoofer is dedicated to reproducing low-frequency sounds, such as deep bass. It adds impact and realism to movie soundtracks, especially during action scenes and explosions.
Atmos Speakers: Atmos speakers are used in Dolby Atmos setups to create a three-dimensional sound experience. They are placed above the listener to deliver height channels, adding a new dimension to the surround sound experience.
Dedicated cinema speakers are designed to work together seamlessly, creating a cohesive soundstage that enhances the viewing experience. They are available in various configurations and price ranges to suit different room sizes and budgets. When combined with a high-quality audio receiver, dedicated cinema speakers can deliver a truly immersive home theatre experience.
