Paying homage to their Persian heritage, Hashemi and Moghaddam called their brand Roksan after 'Roxana', daughter of the famous Persian King Darius. Many of Roksan's product names have references to names of cities, places and famous people of Persia.
Roksan was founded in 1985 by University of London, Imperial College London and Queen Mary College graduates, Tufan Hashemi and Touraj Moghaddam.
Dissatisfied with what they believed were many inaccuracies and inconsistencies in turntable performance at the time, Roksan set out to revolutionise what people thought of as Hi-Fi turntable.
After some seriously innovative engineering and complete system re-designs, Roksan launched their very first turntable in 1985 - called the 'Xerxes'.
The Xerxes was met with much critical acclaim and set the platform for Roksan to focus their expertise on amplifiers and digital sources.
Since their initial explosive success, Roksan has remained at the forefront of Hi-Fi and audio innovation for decades, continuously creating products that push the boundaries of what's possible.
2016 was a monumental year in Roksan's history, being acquired by the prestigious British loudspeaker manufacturers Monitor Audio. This acquisition has allowed for many high-quality developments and refinements in their product range, as well as beautiful synergy and combinations with Monitor Audio lines.
