PMG S200 Stereo Signature Power Amplifier

The PMG S200 Stereo is where the PMG Signature amplifier journey begins — but “entry-level” certainly does not mean compromised. Built around the same fundamental Signature philosophy found throughout the range, the S200 brings high-end amplifier engineering into a more practical stereo chassis designed for real rooms and real-world systems.

With 100 watts per channel into 8Ω and 200 watts per channel into 4Ω, the S200 delivers the authority needed to drive a wide range of bookshelf, stand-mount, and floorstanding speakers. More importantly, it combines that power with 10 watts of genuine Class A bias per channel, an ultra-wide bandwidth exceeding 500 kHz, extremely fast transient response, and a remarkably low-feedback design.

The S200 also features PMG's state-of-the-art active power supply, helping both stereo channels maintain clean, stable power even when demanding musical passages arrive. Designed by Darren Myers, engineered by Bob Stadtherr, and hand-built in Boulder, Colorado, it brings the engineering principles of the PMG Signature Series into a more accessible format.

For listeners building a serious two-channel system, the S200 offers something particularly compelling: Signature-level design without paying for power reserves your room and speakers may never use. It is an amplifier designed to disappear into the system and let the music take center stage.

100W Per Channel — 200W Into 4Ω

The S200 delivers 100 watts per channel into 8Ω, with the ability to double its output to 200 watts per channel into 4Ω. This gives it the current capability and control needed for a wide range of speakers, from bookshelf monitors to larger floorstanders.

Whether you're listening to delicate acoustic recordings or demanding orchestral and rock passages, the S200 has the power reserves to maintain composure and authority. It is an ideal choice for small to medium-sized rooms and efficient to moderately demanding loudspeakers.

Genuine 10W Class A Bias Per Channel

The S200 provides 10 watts of true Class A operation per channel, allowing the amplifier to remain in its most linear operating region during much of normal listening. Unlike conventional designs that quickly transition into Class AB operation, this gives low-level music greater purity and continuity.

That matters especially with vocals, acoustic instruments, ambience, and subtle recording details. For listeners who value natural tone, smoothness, and effortless musical expression, the S200's genuine Class A bias brings a level of refinement that is unusual at this point in the range.

State-of-the-Art Active Power Supply

A stereo amplifier shares its power supply between two channels, making the quality and stability of that supply critically important. The S200's active power supply is designed to deliver clean, stable power while minimizing the interaction between the left and right channels during demanding passages.

The result is strong dynamics, excellent channel separation, and a stable stereo image. Even when one channel is handling a sudden musical peak, the power supply is designed to keep the other channel from being unnecessarily affected — helping the S200 deliver a more open and controlled presentation.

Ultra-Wide Bandwidth & >200V/µS Slew Rate

With bandwidth extending beyond 500 kHz and a slew rate exceeding 200 volts per microsecond, the S200 is engineered with exceptional speed and response far beyond the basic audible range. This provides plenty of headroom for accurately reproducing the rapid changes contained within music.

Fast transient response helps preserve the leading edge of cymbals, percussion, plucked strings, and other dynamic sounds. The result is a presentation that can feel more immediate, precise, and effortless, allowing complex musical passages to remain clean rather than becoming blurred or congested.

Strikingly Low-Feedback Design

Rather than relying heavily on negative feedback to correct distortion after it occurs, the S200 uses a low-feedback output-stage architecture designed to achieve linearity inherently. This approach is intended to keep the amplifier's behavior consistent across the audible frequency range while preserving the natural character and immediacy of the music.

The measured results are impressive, with typical THD of less than 0.002% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 1W/8Ω. More importantly for the listener, the design philosophy is about allowing the amplifier to stay out of the way — so vocals, instruments, dynamics, and spatial information can come through without the electronics calling attention to themselves.

Full PMG Signature Engineering in a Real-World

The biggest reason to consider the S200 is that it isn't a stripped-down amplifier carrying the Signature name. It uses the full PMG Signature topology, including Darren Myers's low-feedback design philosophy and the same advanced active power-supply architecture used throughout the Signature family.

Designed by Darren Myers, engineered by Bob Stadtherr, and hand-built in Boulder, Colorado, the S200 brings the same engineering priorities to a more practical level of power. If your speakers and listening room don't require the enormous reserves of a larger amplifier, the S200 can give you the Signature experience without paying for capability you may never use.
